Name: Adara (pronounced: ah-dah-ra with a soft, asian "r")
Nickname: Dara
Age: Innumerable; young but experienced for her races. To humankind, she is old beyond belief.
Race: Skeirn* and Shaitan/Ifriti* (Djinni)
*Skeirn are like long, huge, serpentine dragons with silky soft hair, soft scales, and hard jewels lined along their back.
*Shaitan and Ifriti are different tribes or classes of Djinni (genie), usually more evil than the other tribes.
Height: 5'8" usually, but she changes her form to her fit her whims.
Appearance: Adara has a fiery first appearance. Her hair holds within itself all shades of a flame (except blue). Her eyes are a bright, but deep orange. Her skin is a light, luminescent orange/bronze shade, not terribly inhuman, but not entirely human either. There are also iridescent, geometric lines not shown in her photo that line her body (much like my first character, Ciel). Those lines are distinctly Skeirn, though very, very few could identify those lines as Skeirn. Though most Skeirn children also have scales, Adara, being the djinni she is, simply rearranges her appearance so that they are unseen. The lines, however, are non-negotiable in most forms for reasons unknown. Her body type also changes to fit her whims, often without her realizing it. She is, however, without a doubt feminine. Adara wears anything and everything. She is the proverbial chameleon of fashion.
Adara also has a Skeirn form that is unchangeable, and also cannot be mimicked by other races. Her soft scales are an angry red. Her silky Skeirn hair is like her humanoid form's hair, with deep shades of orange flame. The scales that line her back, however, are crystal white. Unlike her humanoid form, her Skeirn eyes are a much brighter, glowing yellow-orange color.
Personality: Adara is best described as whimsical. However, being half djinni there is a distinct dark side to her humor. She will at once flatter and chill. As fiery in temper as in appearance, Adara has a talent for getting into trouble--but also for getting out of trouble though it may take a while. She is skilled in brevity, her words as honeyed as they are sharp. A laugh is almost always on her lips, but the nature of that laugh, however, is questionable. Adara is by nature both languid and easily bored. Those two characteristics war as much as they get along. She is also a bit materialistic, though not shallow by any means.
Brief History: Adara comes from a rare, specialized line of Shaitan and Ifriti intended to nurture and breed the darkest, most evil of djinni. This line of djinni dates back to the beginning, and is aristocratic in nature. Her father, however, had other intentions for his life. Adara learns her fire from her father, who married a Skeirn woman. Adara is the result of their communion. Their partnering caused quite a stir, and so Adara likewise creates a stir in her circles. Having grown up with both lines and influences of her blood, Adara has many contradicting and contrasting traits that often war within her. Despite this constant warring of beliefs, Adara is deceptively light-hearted. She travels frequently and has seen much, but has a home within the Bleeding Spine.
Powers: The Shaitan/Ifriti line's powers are unique on purpose. They shift shape too quickly for the eye to follow. Adara herself prefers the form of smokeless fire. Others of her line prefer sandstorms. Sometimes as a mockery, she'll shift to a fiery sandstorm. The Shaitan/Ifriti line balances out in physical strength, the pure Shaitan being only slightly stronger than humans, and the pure Ifriti being significantly stronger than humans. Shaitan/Ifriti also have an enhanced gift for manipulation. Their magic whispers to the hearts of the living, djinni, human, and skeirn alike. Up until now, that gift has been used solely for dark purposes. Adara had often wondered if it could be used for good purposes as well, but has not had the drive to try. Shaitan/Ifriti also manipulate air and fire. They cannot, however, grant wishes. Adara is only half Shaitan/Ifriti, so her powers are not as potent in some areas, and more potent in others.
Skeirn hide their powers well, even from their close Naiad friends. They have two specific forms, humanoid and serpentine, though it is much more difficult for full Skeirn to take humanoid form. They have a connection to jewels, and also to the wind and light. That, however, is as much as the Naiad know--and they know more than any other race that still lives. Therefore, Adara uses whatever Skeirn powers she possess sparingly if at all.
It is not exactly a power, but it is important to note that the Shaitan/Ifriti have the longest lifespans of the djinni tribes. Skeirn live longer than Shaitan/Ifriti, and only grow larger and more powerful with age.
Weaknesses: Shaitan/Ifriti are vulnerable to all types of magic, particularly of the lighter variety. They are also weak against prayer/holiness and certain jewels/metals including ruby and iron. Because Adara is also Skeirn, however, her weakness to ruby is significantly less than her weakness to iron. By her Skeirn blood, she is weak to all metals of the earth, so her weakness to iron is enhanced. These weaknesses painfully affect her magic, and can even hurt to the touch.
As a djinni, Adara can be bound to items or people. The ceremony to do so is painful for the djinni, and is very complicated. The djinni’s true name must be known in order to complete the ceremony, but the ceremony itself as well as the true name is a very ancient and heavily guarded secret by both djinni and those who wish to bind them. The ceremony also changes depending on the tribe of djinni.
