Name: Casteylan
Nicknames: The Red Hawk, or Cas, or just Red. (Casteylan means Red Hawk in the Elenari tongue).
Age: 270
Race: Elenari (elf)
Physical Description: About 6'8" tall, very thin. Messy ginger hair, light blue eyes. Has scars including some on his face that he has disguised with a tattoo, and many criss-crossed slashes on his back. Dresses in soft leather, mostly browns and greens, but likes to add brightly coloured scarves, beads and other accessories. He carries a battered old backpack, two slender curved swords, a longbow and a small harp.
Personality: He is easy-going and cheerful with an optimistic outlook and a playful nature. Has a tendency to be lazy and can be rather self-centered, but he is generally good-natured. He dislikes authority and will happily break laws he considers to be unjust or petty. he lives in a state of permanent wanderlust, never settling down on one place for long before getting the urge to move on again.
Skills and Abilities: Hunting/tracking & fishing. Combat (speciallises in two one-handed swords). Sailing. Bardic skills; harp, singing, storytelling. Can speak several languages which he has picked up on his travels.
Weaknesses: Unlike most Elenari he has no skill in magic and is distrustful of those who use it openly. He lacks formal education so his reading and writing skills are poor. He is rather too fond of alcohol and is prone to getting drunk at inconvenient times.
History: Casteylan was born on a small island in the Tyrosian Chain and raised in near-poverty by his mother alone after his father was lost at sea when Casteylan was an infant. When he came of age he joined the crew of a long distance ship and this whet his appetite for travel and adventure. He stayed with the crew for many years, rising through the ranks until he was offered captaincy of his own vessel. Thinking that it sounded like far too much responsibility, he declined and took to the life of a travelling bard and ranger, taking work wherever he can.
During his travels in the Blue Forest he met an Elenari girl called Shannah. They fell in love and planned to be married but fate separated them and he has not seen her in over a hundred years. He keeps travelling in the hope that he will find her again one day.
Notes about the Elenari: They are an elf-like race, generally taller and more slender than humans. Hair colour is usually black, red, blond or white. Ears are slightly pointed. They reach maturity at about 20 years of age and live on average about 800 years. They are naturally resistant to disease and aging but have normal vulnerability to injury. The Elenari are (usually) naturally adept at magic. They are a spiritual race, having faith in a benevolent earth-goddess called Dain, who is usually depicted in the form of a blue dragon. They believe that they are in exile from another world that has been destroyed. Elenari are naturally bisexual and polyamorous, and they commonly take several partners of both sexes. They can interbreed with humans and some other races.
